FAQ
1. My tank is growing algae fast. What can I do to stop the algae?
First a properly cycled fish tank will always grow algae. At Always Clean Aquarium Maintenance we don't stop algae growth completely our service personnel will help you control the growth of algae in your tank. Second, We will start by having you do light control for your aquarium. Most people that are first time owners and some experienced owners leave their lights on all the time (24/7). We teach that 'the lights are for your enjoyment', and that they should be turned on when you are around to enjoy the fish. Third, if your fish tank is getting direct sun light we suggest that you close the curtains/blinds. Finally, most of the new LED lights can be adjusted to different light settings. Our maintenance staff will help you set the lights that will give you the optimal light for your fish tank.
2. How often should aquarium tank be cleaned?
At Always Clean Aquarium Maintenance we recommend that you do a water change up to 50% and check/ clean/change your filters as needed monthly for fish only tanks, and that is as long as you don't over feed your fish tank or have it over populated. For Reef tanks we suggest that they be cleaned twice a month. Unless you have a nano-reef that is not over populated than one time a month should work. As for commercial lobster/crab tanks we at Always Clean suggest weekly maintenance, because of all the waste produced by the lobster and crabs.
3. How often should you change gravel in fish tank?
At Always Clean Aquarium Maintenance we do not recommend changing the gravel or crush coral in your fish tank. The only times you would want to change gravel in a freshwater tank is if you want a different look in your aquarium, or the gravel in your tank is so old that the epoxy is wearing off of the gravel. On a saltwater and reef tanks with sand we suggest that when the silt keeps clumping the sand up, or the phosphates and nitrates can't be controlled by a normal water change.
4. How often should I feed my fish?
At Always Clean Aquarium Maintenance we recommend that you feed your fish one time a day. The rule of thumb is what the fish can eat in a two to three minute time span with no food left floating around. If the food is all eaten up than just add a little more the next feeding. If your fish are considered show size or bigger than you will want to split the amount of food you feed and feed those fish two times a day.
